In her first novel, Gay Walley weaves two stories into a seamless narrative - a woman's quest for love, and the drunken, vagabond childhood she endured with her father. Raised on a barstool, Charlee spends her youth drinking in the dark dives of New England and Montreal with a father who flees from woman to woman. As an adult, in one of her father's haunts, she encounters the man whose flaws and attractions will make her face every emotion that confounded her dad. She longs for companionship, but from her father she has learned to trust only her own will and crave solitude. Can she overcome a life of defiant independence and her distrust of affection? Walley's daring prose style allows the writer to make Charlee's rough but endearing past immediate and vital in her present.

(In The Erotic Fire of the Unattainable, author Gay Walley...)
In The Erotic Fire of the Unattainable, author Gay Walley weaves love with life, art with making a living, and inspiration with the banal realities of daily life. The book shows how passion is to be found in every moment, none the least in a passion for independence. Beginning with "Why Women Fight Pirates," Walley covers such disparate topics as "The Disappointments of Infidelity," "Talk in Love," "Writers," "Work and Its Punishments," "The Importance of the Argument," "The Ocean," and "New York," finishing with "Deathbed." This unflinching book of aphorisms describes a journey through an artist's mind, taking us outside the usual confines, to lovers and ex-husbands, traveling, solitude, money and the importance of rebellion.

(Duet is a wildly comic story of a beautiful and talented ...)
Duet is a wildly comic story of a beautiful and talented young woman in her 20's living in New York City and her misadventures as she navigates men's desires and fears. When most women look into a mirror, they see flaws in their body. Some of those flaws can end up being the very essence of what some see as a woman's true beauty. Duet, a talented, sensitive, gorgeous young woman, has an unusual anatomy one that might overexcite one man, but terrify another. She has to live with this sexual uniqueness and not see herself as a freak. Men are drawn to Duet. One night she meets Oskar, a handsome young man who is successful, sexy, intelligent, witty and seems able to handle her design. They fall in love, even though he has an aloofness about him that seems a bit odd. It turns out he has secrets of his own. Oskar is also a wild card and turns out to be connected to Duet in more ways than one. Duet is a romp full of vibrant, unexpected characters doing unexpected things, as they love, move toward and away from each other. It's also a metaphor for how we must also risk love, no matter what bodies were given us, and no matter what unusual choices of the heart we make.
