She did her schooling in Sikkim and thereafter moved to Kolkata for graduation, where she was a model before joining films. Thapa’s debut short English film was Myth (2006) that was made in Sikkim, directed by Prashant Rasaily, when she was still in school. Her first Hindi film Tina Ki Chaabi (2010) was not released.
Her next film I.D. directed by Kamal K.M. got her two international awards for best actress — at the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Madrid Film Festival.
Meanwhile she did several television commercials, including a L"Oreal ad with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
