Gene Overall received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arkansas State University in 1969. It was followed by a Master of Arts degree from Webster University six years later. In 1980, Overall obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Saint Louis University.
Gene Overall served as a senior district supervisor at Missouri Board of Probation & Parole, St. Louis, from 1969 to 1977.
In 1980, he was admitted to the Missouri bar and started his private practice in law that lasted for one year. He then occupied the post of an executive assistant defender in the Office of Public Defender, Clayton. After leaving the post in 1983, Overall became an assistant director at St. Louis County Department Judicial Administration serving in that capacity of the ten subsequent years.
From 1983 to 1990, Overall served as a secretary in the Lakeside Children's Academy board of directors, St. Louis. He has been a circuit clerk in St. Louis County since 1993.
Gene Overall has served as an assistant professor of criminal justice at Lindenwood University since 2006.
