Gennady Konstantinovich graduated from the Voronezh State Technical University in 1969.
In 1969 Gennady Konstantinovich worked as an engineer for some time. He was a photographer at the Institute "Coregraphics" (1972-1992). In 1970-1992, he organized photo exhibitions of portraits of the country's best jazz musicians at jazz festivals in Voronezh, Donetsk, Krasnoyarsk, Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), Riga, Vitebsk, and other cities.
Gennady Konstantinovich created a gallery of portraits of famous Russian bards, which was exhibited in Moscow and the Moscow region, Voronezh, Tallinn, Kiev, Kazan, Saratov, and other cities. In the 1970s and 1980s, the photographer copied and distributed books by A. Solzhenitsyn, V. Shalamov, Alexander Galich. M. Tsvetaeva and other writers and poets.
In 1981, Gennady Konstantinovich developed a system for dynamically displaying slide films; the slide film "Meeting with Vladimir Vysotsky" created by Shakin was repeatedly shown in Voronezh and more than 100 times in various cities of the USSR. In 1987, he released sets of photo cards "Voronezh yesterday and today". In 1986 and 2002, he made photo panoramas of the Right-bank part.
