Genso Watanabe was born in 1869 in Japan.
Genso Watanabe graduated from Buddhist Department of Tetsugakukan (Institute of Philosophy) in 1899.
Genso Watanabe served as chief priest of Kogenji and Daijoji temples, and became chief priest of Sojiji Temple, center of Sotoshil Sect of Buddhism (since 1944). He was appointed Daikyoshi (Great Master) and awarded the title of Zenji (Master of Zen). Genso Watanabe served also as director of Social Work Department of Sojiji Temple.
