In 1776 Taki was appointed physician to the Shogunate in whose service he was decorated with the title of Hoin. He made great improvements in the Seijukan, the medical school his father had established.
When Sadanobu Matsudaira, Shogunate minister, came into power in the early part of the Kansei Era (1789-1800) Gentoku advised and assisted him and corrected many social evils of those days.
Toward the end of his days he founded a laboratory for the preparation of medicines. Gentoku wrote several books on health and some ballads on the subject.
