Genzaemon Ukon was born in 1622 in Japan.
Genzaemon Ukon was a famous Oyama (an actor who impersonates women). He was originally a dancer of Kita school and won fame by dancing with Sakon Murayama in Edo, Nagoya and Kyoto. When a Shogunate order forced actors of wakashu-kabuki (kabuki played by pretty young boys) to shave off their forelocks as was the custom for all grown-ups, Ukon managed to retain the charm of his hair by wearing a colored silk cloth about three feet long called oki-tenugi.
