1896 graduate Tiflis Theological Seminary. 1900 graduate Kazan’ Theological Academy as Candidate of Divinity.
Career
Until 1915 taught at theological establishments: 1915 consecrated priest. 1925 took monastic orders with the name Melkhiscdek. 1925 elevated to archimandrite and soon afterwards to Bishop of Alaverda.
1927 appointed Bishop of Tskhum-Bcdia (Geo Soviet Socialist Republic). 1928 resigned this see. 1935 elevated to metropolitan.
1943 appointed Metropolitan of Urbnis (Geo Soviet Socialist Republic). 1952 at 9th Synod of All-Geo Church in Tbilisi, elected Catholicos of All Georgia Also Archbishop of Mtskheta and Tbilisi.
