Personality
Schaeffler likes solitude and explains it in such a way: “If you have the background that I have, you, by your very nature, don’t have a lot of friends. Because you’re always—in the back of your mind, there’s always this ‘Okay, is it your background or is it you?’”
When he was spending his second summer at the firm t no one there really knew who they were working with. He was just another associate. Working silly hours. Coming in on the weekends. Schaeffler explains his appetite for such tough stuff: “There are people who are born with this money who don’t have that desire to have a purpose. Who don’t need to feel this sense of accomplishing something on your own. I need to have this sense that I am doing something. I can’t just sit there and then, well, by 11 o’clock it’s time to get up and we’ll start with a double scotch or something like that.”
