Admitted to Missouri bar, April, and went to Colorado (then known as “Pike’s Peak”), 1860. Practiced law at Gregory Diggings, 1860-1862. With a company of 16 men went to headwaters of Salmon River, in what is now Idaho, prospecting for gold, 1862.
Later mined, and practiced law in Idaho.
Member Territorial legislative council, 1865-1866. Member State Constitutional Convention, 1889. Member Democratic National Committee, 1896-1900.
Married Sallie Owens, March 27, 1866.
