In that role, he serves on the board of the Beck Group, the Crossroads Group and Fund, and the Bayoud Group. In 1989, he became Secretary of State under Texas Governor Bill Clements. At the time, he was the youngest secretary of state in the country.
He graduated from Saint Mark"s School of Texas and the University of Texas at Austin.
While at the University of Texas, he served as president of the Texas Cowboys.
