George Brewster studied at the Massachusetts State Normal Art School in Boston, and then spent three years in Paris as a student at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Among his teachers were Augustin Dumont and Antonin Mercie.

Brewster also taught modeling at Cooper Union beginning 1900. Art Students League of New York beginning 1886. And Rhode Island School of Design, between 1893 and 1894.
