George received a formal education at Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. He graduated it in 1883. Later he studied architecture at Columbia University in New York City, United States. From 1886 to 1990 he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France.
Following his return to this country, in 1891 Mr. Cary opened an office in Buffalo, New York, United States and continued active in professional practice throughout a long and successful career. Among the many public and private buildings he designed, were: the General' Hospital; Dental College and several other buildings at the University of Buffalo; State Hospital for Malignant Diseases; Buffalo Historical Building, built as the New York State Building at the Pan-American Exposition of 1901, and in addition works of varied type it.
Georgey was a member and one-time president of the Buffalo Chapter, Mr. Cary was a Fellow of the Institute in 1892, and from 1908 to 1910 served as a member of the national Board of Directors. He was also active in civic affairs, serving as Director of the Fine Arts Academy and the Albright Art Gallery.
