Career
Bell ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature as a Social Cr candidate in the electoral district of Gleichen for the 1944 Alberta general election. He ran in a hotly contested three way race defeating incumbent Donald McKinnon taking just over half the popular vote. Bell ran for a second term in the 1948 Alberta general election.
He ran in a two way race against Independent candidate Jonathan Wheatley easily defeating him with a near landslide majority to return to office.
The 1952 Alberta general election would see Bell run for his third term in office. Bell ran for a fourth term in office in the 1955 Alberta general election.
He ran in a hotly contested two way race against Liberal candidate Carman Ellis. Bell held his seat defeating Ellis by 128 votes.
Ellis would challenge Bell for the second time in the 1959 Alberta general election.
Bell retired from provincial politics at dissolution of the Assembly in 1963.
