He was educated at New College, Oxford where he gained an Master of Arts in Group of the European People's Party (Christian-Democratic Group), and has an Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
In November 2014, it was reported that his annual pay had risen 23% to £7.15 million. He was Managing Director of Westmill Foods (who make Allinson Flour)) from 1992-1998, then Allied Bakeries from 1999-2003. He was Chief Executive of George Weston Foods Limited (Australia) from 2003-2005.
He became Chief Executive Officer of ABF plc in 2005, succeeding Peter Jackson, who had taken over from his father, Garry Weston (who died in 2002) in 1999.
