Studied at North London Collegiate School.
Career
Left school in 1866 to assist father in reporting for Times, at Bow Street Police Court. Made first appearance at Polytechnic Institution as an entertainer a la John Parry, 1870. First appearance on stage in Gilbert and Sullivan’s opera, The Sorcerer, at Opera Comique, 1877.
Played principal parts in eight following operas at that theatre, and the Savoy (the first London theatre lighted entirely by electric light).
In 1889 started on tour (for 17 years) with single-handed Humorous and Musical Recitals: the tours included Great Britain and Ireland, United States and Canada. Actor and entertainer.
