Career
From 1883 to 1899, he was professor of Christian theology at Andover Theological Seminary and from 1899 to 1911 president of Amherst College. He is author of Moral Evolution, (1896) and Inequality and Progress, (1897). He was one of the editors of the Andover Review from 1884-1893.
