He had studies at the Yonkers (N.Y.) Academy.
At the age of eighteen entered his father's office. Later, having acquired skill in draftsmanship, the young man assisted the elder Mason in designing some of the fine homes and large estates in Newport dating from the late nineteenth century. Among their clients were the late Colonel C. A. Dearing, Thomas .Dunn, and George Tiffany.
In Philadelphia where the Masons, father and son, began practice in the 1880's they were known as specialists in residential work, also designed the Delaney School at the comer of Pine and Broad Streets, various other public structures, and were architects on the alterations and additions made to St. Stephen’s Church.
Like his father, George C. Mason, Jr. was a gifted writer, the author of "Reminiscences of Newport" (published in six volumes), the Life of Gilbert Stuart,” and "Life of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry.”
An early member of the A. I. A., advanced to Fellowship in 1889, Mr. Mason served as Secretary of the Philadelphia Chapter for a number of years, and during his career was prominently connected with all matters pertaining to his chosen profession.
