Major 1st Royal Dublin Fusiliers, 1888. Lieutenant-‘Colonel, 1898. Lieutenant-Colonel commanding 1st Bn.
Royal Dublin Fusiliers till 1902. Served with 1st Bn. during South African War, 1899-1902. Severely wounded (left hand and arm disabled) at the battle of Alleman’s Nek, 1900 (despatches four times).
Commanded No. XI. District, 1906-1910. Retired 1910.
Served in Gibraltar, Ceylon, Egypt, India, Beluchistan, and South Africa, 1899-1902 (despatches four times, Queen’s medal, live clasps, King’s medal, two clasps, Companion of the Bath). C. B. 1900.
