George Frederick Schueler received from Stanford University his A.B. with Honors in Philosophy in 1966. He then received from the University of California, Berkeley his Master of Arts in 1968. In 1973 he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley.
George Frederick Schueler worked as an assistant professor at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque from 1971 to 1979, later became an associate professor from 1979 to 1990, and from 1990 to 2007 was a professor of philosophy. Between 1996 and 2000 Schueler became department head of philosophy department there. He also served as director of graduate studies in philosophy at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque during 1980-1989.
Since 2007 he has been a professor of philosophy and department chair, philosophy department, at the University of Delaware.
His areas of specialization include ethics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of action. In addition, his areas of competence include philosophy of law, applied ethics, elementary logic.
Besides, Schueler also authored "The Idea of a Reason for Acting" and "Desire: Its Role in Practical Reason and the Explanation of Action". He is also a contributor of articles and reviews to philosophy journals, including Teaching Philosophy, Medical Ethics for the Physician, Personalist, Journal of Critical Analysis, Ethics, and Mind.
George Frederick Schueler received grants from Council for Philosophical Studies for Williams College in 1977 and from American Philosophical Association in 1981, and National Endowment for the Humanities from University of California in Santa Cruz in 1990. He also received the Hewlett Foundation Interdisciplinary Teaching Grant in 2001-2002 and National Endowment for the Humanities: Summer Research Stipend, in June and July 2003.
