Spalding, George was born on November 12, 1837 in in Scotland. Son of Andrew and Isabella Spalding.

Career

Private and sergeant, Company A, 4th Michigan Infantry, June 20, 1861. First lieutenant, August 5, 1861. Captain January 13, 1862.

Lieutenant-colonel 18th Michigan Infantry, July 18, 1862. Colonel 12th Tennessee Cavalry, February 24, 1864. Bvtd. brig.-general vols., March 21, 1865, for valuable services during campaign in Tennessee.

Honorary musitered out, October 24, 1865. Postmaster, Monroe, Michigan, 1866-1870. Special agent, United States Treasury Department, 1875-1875.

Mayor of Monroe, 1876. Admitted to bar, 1878. Director, 1876, director and cashier, 1877-1892, since president First National Bank, Monroe.
