George Trippet was born on February 8, 1809, in Franklin County, Kentucky, United States. He was the son of Hedgman Triplett and Nancy Triplett. Little is known of his early life or education.
In 1833, Triplett moved to Daviess County, Kentucky, where he became a public surveyor, merchant, and later a farmer. He served in the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1840 and in the Kentucky Senate from 1848 to 1852.
When the Civil War began, he volunteered for service in the Confederate Army. As a major, he served on the staff of Generals Helm, Hanson, and Van Dorn, all in Kentucky. In 1862, he was chief quartermaster of John C. Breckinridge's Corps.
When Breckinridge joined the Davis cabinet, Triplett succeeded him in the second Confederate House of Representatives, where he served on the Claims Committee. After the war, he was a judge in Daviess County.
George Triplett was generally a Davis administration supporter.
George married Pamela Head in 1827. They had three children: Robert Samuel, Sarah Kate, and Octavia V. Triplett.
