Mr. Washburn manifested an interest in architecture early in life. At the age of nineteen he began a period of training in the local office of C. A. Dunham, and later became his partner. In 1898 he opened his own office in Burlington and continued active in practice the rest of his life. Among the more important examples of his work were the "Gazette” newspaper building, portions of the City Hospital, and buildings at the County Farm, all in Burlington.
Well known professionally, Mr. Washburn was elected to the Iowa Chapter, A.I.A. in 1915, also was a member of the State Association of Architects.
