Profits in the British Economy, 1909-38 (Oxford University Institute of Economic & Statistics Monograph)
An Oxford college tutor must be a generalist, trying to keep up with principal developments in economic theory, while continuing to keep in touch with the real world. Interest in theory led to rationing, the adding-up criterion and economic growth. Particular interests in applied economics have included profits and the service industries, and I was involved in editing and contributing to books on the British economy.
At National Institute of Economie and Social Research, London, United Kingdom, I became involved in economic modelling and forecasting. Throughout my professional life I have advocated an incomes policy as a means to achieve full employment without inflation.
Fellow British Academy. Member Royal Economic Society (president 1982-1984).
