He was a graduate of the Maryland Institute of Technology in 1872.
He was trained in draftsmanship in the Baltimore office of J. N. B. Wyatt, and during the late 19th century started practice for himself.
After designing a number of public schools in Baltimore, Mr. Worthington carried on a more general practice. At one time he collaborated with T. Henry Randall on plans for the First National Bank Building, served as associate architect with the firm of Parker, Thomas & Rice on the Pennsylvania Railroad Station in Baltimore, also independently designed the Grace Episcopal Church at Elk River, Md., and other buildings elsewhere in the state.
