While in England his case was reviewed by the authorities of the Established Church and they unanimously requested the Bishop of Pennsylvania to reopen the case and restore him to priestly office.
Was presented for trial in ecclesiastical court of Diocese of Pennsylvania, under 127 charges for defiance of Bishop P.M. Rhinelander. Pleaded own case and was acquitted of 124 and found guilty on 3 charges. Was suspended for 2 years, but immediately restored.
