Studied at Mitcham College. Absolutely self - taught in art. Commenced work before 16, owing to father’s sudden death.
Came to London, 1873. Early part of career devoted to design. Exhibited at R. A. since 1883.
Exhibited oil and water colours at all leading galleries. Has worked in black and white illustrations in all leading magazines. Designed the covers to the Strand Magazine and the Strand Musical Magazine, etc.
President Institute of Decorative Designers. Examiner to Board of Education in Principles of Ornament. President Langham Sketching Club, 1883 - 87 and 1908.
