Graduated from the United States Naval Academy, 1865.

Career

Served on various ships, including Juniata in Greenland after Polaris survivors, 1873. Brought home Virginius filibusters from Santiago, 1873. Commanded United States Ship Justin, off Santiago, in Spanish-American War, 1898.

Took United States Ship Yosemite to Guam, 1899, and surveyed harbor. Commanded United States Ship New Orleans in Manila, 1900, thence captain navy yard, Mare Island, California, until retired as rear admiral United States Navy, September 26, 1901, after 40 years’ service.
