Entered Illinois National Guard as private, 1920, private lieutenant colonel, active duty 131st Infantry, trained at Camp Forest, Tennessee, 1941. Commander 2d Battalion, 132d Infantry, South Pacific Campaign, 1941-1943.

Commander regiment, Guadalcanal, 1942.

Returned to the United States, 1944. Organized, commander regiment of infantry, Camp Maxey, Texas, 1944.

Director training Camp Wheeler, Georgia, 1945. Separated from service.

1945; chief staff Illinois National Guard, 1946.

Later organized, commander 132d Infantry Regiment, West. Madison Saint, Chicago. Appointed brig, general, assigned assistant commanding general 33d Division, 1948. Now major general.
