Entered army, 1887; Adjutant 1st Battalion 1894- Operating system. Captain, 1896. Major, 1904. Adjutant 3rd Battalion 1S9S-1903.
Served in operations in Zululand with Mounted Infantry, 1888-1891. South African War, 1900-1902 (despatches, medal with three clasps, King’s medal with two clasps, Coronation medal).
Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 1900. The Royal Scots.
