Achievements include research in fracture mechanics; fatigue at elevated temperature; engineering mechanics and materials; initiated international research thrusts in mesomechanics for connecting the behavior of materials to their microstructural makeup, and in biomimetics for synthesizing multifunctional materials that imitate biological materials.
