Founder and Head some of largest lumber concerns in Central and Southern Appalachian regions. General Manager Montvale Lumber Company, R. E. Wood Lumber Company, since 1904. Served in World War to create, train and equip the Twentieth Regiment of Forestry Engineers for overseas service.
Set about in cooperation with gen. engnrng. office in selection, purchase and shipment to France of needed machinery and equipment for regt. Commissioned and assigned to overseas duty, arriving in France, 1917. Served under General Jackson, with Headquarters. in office of Chief Engineer, as Senior Major, 20 Regiment, Engineers, in charge of Tech, equipment and forestry production for British, French and American Forces.
Invented Wood Ovens, used throughout war by American Forces, also adopted by British, Canadian and French Forestry Regiment, active in organisation, looking after proper care and preservation of Forestry Resources, as well as development of Lumbering Industry. Representative Maryland on National. Forest Fire Prevention Committee and Southern Forestry Congress.
V. President Appalachian Logging Congress, Knoxville, Tennessee. Commissioned by Secretary United States Department of Agriculture to serve as charter member on the Research Council Board of Forestry.
