Career

Trustee Peabody Museum Natural History, Yale University, and of Peabody Ednl. Fund. Presidential elector, 1880, 84. Governor of Rhode Island, 1885-1886, 1886-1887.

Defeated for 3d term, 1887. Defeated for United States senator 1889, but elected United States senator for terms, 1895-1901, 1901-1907, 1907-1913.
