Taught school at Sparta, Mississippi, 1888-1889. Established the Abbeville Normal College, Abbeville, Lafayette Company, Mississippi, 1889-1891. Taught Mathematics, Grenada College, 1891.
Principal of Greenwood and New Albany public schools. Elected Superintendent Education, Lafayette Company, 1894. Elected to State Legislature, Mississippi, 1899 and served through the Longino administration.
Elected to State Senate, Mississippi, 1903 and served through Noel administration. In the Senate served on following comms.: Finance, Federal Relations, Agriculture, Commerce, and Manufactures, Claims, Joint Committee on Universities and Colleges, Chairman, Special joint comm, for final revision of the Code of 1906. Elected President, Farmers Educational and Cooperative Union of American for Mississippi Division.
Attended International Cotton Conference, Barcelona, Spain, Elected President, Mississippi Agricultural and Mechanical College, 1912-1916. Moved to Stanton, Miss, and became the largest grower and shipper of vegetables in Mississippi Appointed member, State Tax Commission, since 1926. Author of the bill creating the State Department of Agriculture of Miss, and of the bill reducing the contract rate of interest from ten to eight per cent.
Introduced the Corn and Pig Clubs into Mississippi Established Department of Markets in A. and M. College, 1913.
