Vaughan, George Tully was born on June 27, 1859 in Arrington, Virginia, United States. Son of Doctor James Walter Washington Lafayette and Frances Ellen (Shields) Vaughan.

Doctor of Medicine University of Virginia, 1879. Doctor of Medicine Bellevue Hospital Medical College (New York University), 1880. Post-graduate courses in New York Polyclinic, University of Berlin, and Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia.

Doctor of Laws, Georgetown University, 1919.

Career

Surgeon, January 25, 1888, passed assistant surgeon, 1892, surgeon, 1900, assistant surgeon-general, 1902-1906, United States Public Health and Marine Hospital Service. Major and brigade surgeon, 7th Army Corps, during war with Spain. Became professor surgery, Georgetown University Medical School, 1897.

Now emeritus professor of surgery.

Chief surgeon Georgetown University Hospital. Surgeon Tuberculosis Hospital and consulting surgeon Saint Elizabeth Hospital and Washington Asylum Hospital, United States Veterans Bureau.

Was operating surgeon in the navy in Mexican imbroglio at Vera Cruz. 1914, and surgeon United States Ship Leviathan in the World War, 1917-1919.
