Danforth, George Washington was born on February 22, 1868 in Charleston, Missouri, United States. Son of Lewis William and Mary Jane (Yates) Danforth.

Education

State Normal School, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, 1883-1884. Manual Training School, Washington University, St. Louis, 1884-1885. Graduated from the United States Naval Academy, 1889.

Postgraduate course and practical engineering and engine building, Navy Yard, New York, 1891-1892.

Career

Commissioned in engineer corps, United States Navy, July, 1891. Engineering duties of various kinds at sea and on shore, July 1, 1891-June 1, 1899, retired. Inspector machinery for Navy Department, at Union Iron works, San Francisco, 1902-1903 and 1906-1907.

Navy Department detail at St. Louis Exposition, 1904. Instructor engineering department, Naval Academy, 1908-1911. In charge summer naval school, Culver (Indiana) Military Academy, 1912.

Chief Machinery Exhibits Department, Panama-Pacific International Exposition, 1912-1915. Inspector engineering material for United States Navy in central district of Pennsylvania, 1917-1919.
