Wingate, George Wood was born on July 1, 1840 in New York, New York, United States. Son of Charles and Mary P. (Robinson) Wingate.

Education

Educational public schools Conducted construction of elevated rys. in Brooklyn. In 22d New York Regiment during Civil War.

Career

Instruction in National Guard. Founded Creedmoor; was 1st general inspector rifle practice, 1st secretary, and later president National Rifle Association of the United States for 25 years. Was special aid on nat. staff G.A.R. on military instruction in public schools.

Organizer and president Public Schools Athletic League, and Brooklyn Institute Safety. Founder of Victory Hall. Author: Wingate’s Manual of Rifle Practice, 1872.
