Georges Papazoff worked in Germany before he settled in France in 1924. During the 1920s and 1930s, Papazoff had a successful international career, exhibiting in several European countries and in the United States. Noticed at an early stage by the writer Henri-Pierre Roché, Georges Papazoff’s works quickly found their way into the major American collections, as Roché was one of their regular advisers.
He returned to France in 1970. There he met Andrei Nakov, who convinced the seventy-year-old painter to return to the Paris scene, and this culminated in his solo exhibition at the Galerie de Seine in 1971. Papazoff became a close friend of Max Ernst, Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso.
Georges Papazoff was a prominent painter of his time. His artworks were appreciated not only in Bulgaria and France but also in many other countries. Many paintings by the artist have been sold at auction, including Tribute to Customs Rousseau's Dream the Sleeping Bohemienne, sold at Artcurial Impressionist and Modern Art 2 in 2014 for $90,250.
