Before World War I, gained fame as a writer on Siberian subjects, V Prostorakh Sibiri, 2 vol. 1913-1915. During the Civil War, emigrated in 1920 to France. Settled in the USA. Wrote a saga about a Siberian peasant family, Churaevy, 6 volumes, 1922-1936.
Renamed his American estate Churaevka.
