Background

Georgina was born in Tripoli , Greece into a very traditional Greek family with parents George and Stavroula Rockas. She spent most of her teenage years at the highly regarded St Dominics Convent School for Girls in Boksburg, South Africa as a boarder .She is one of four children in the Rockas family , and her siblings are brother Basil, and sisters Dimitra and Angelique .

Education

Having Matriculated at St Dominics`s Convent , Boksburg, Georgina attended a Diploma course in Fashion at a private institution, which included visits to Paris fashion houses as part of the curriculum. She followed this by completing a four year degree course in Fine Arts at Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria (then known as Pretoria Technikon) .

Further studies included a 2 year course in Biblical Studies

Career

Georgina first started her arts career in South Africa as a designer for a Tile manufacturer , during the course of which she won a Award for the best Tile design of the year.

She moved to Greece where she opened her own Art Gallery .

Her artwork extends to paintings, card design, decoupage of bricollage , hardanger embroidery, and paper art

Father:

George Rockas

George Rockas was a highly respected member of the East Rand Greek community of Guateng. He was married to Stavroula (nee Kotsakis) and was father to Basil Rockas, Dimitra Rockas-Eftychis , Angelique Rockas and Georgina Rockas. He was responsible for saving family relatives from Artemision, and families from his wife`s village Kalamara , Messinia from poverty by bringng them to South Africa and offering them work and support.

Great Beauty born in Eua, Kalamara, Messinia . Born into a wealthy landowning family.

Stavroula Rockas was the well respected matriarch of the Rockas (Georgiou) clan in the East Rand Greek community Guateng, South Africa. Following her husband`s death she oversaw the management of the Rockas family property portfolio with a sturdy hand & business acumen aided by her eldest daughter Dimitra (Rockas) Eftychis an academic. On the domestic front she devoted her life to being the emotional support to her son Basil.

Rockas founded Internationalist Theatre in the UK with patron Athol Fugard The company featured multi-racial and multi-national productions of great European classics starting in 1981 "a historic example of theatre work addressing representation in the most valuable manner. Basil Rockas

Basil Rockas , born on the 10th October 1946 in Benoni South Africa was the first born son of George and Stavroula Rockas and had three sisters, Dimitra, Angelique and Georgina . Was highly cherished and loved . Basil was baptised as Vasili in the Greek Orthodox Church of Brakpan , schooled at Umzumbi Convent school Durban and also attended a technical school in Dulstroom. Basil was a avid soccer fan .

He died at the age of 50

Dimitra Rockas-Eftychis is not only a highly respected member of the Greek Pretoria community but is also a highly regarded academic c specializing in the research of the ancient and modern Greek language. She has lectured in Classics at the University of South Africa and in modern Greek at the University of Pretoria
