Specialist in petrography of magmatic rocks, petrology and mineralogy. With Georgia as example showed genetic connection between nature of volcanism and geotectonics. Voting delegation at 1959 Communist Party of the Soviet Union Congress.

Deputy, Georgia Supreme Soviet of 1955 and 1959 convocation. Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1958 convocation. 1958 elected Chairman, Commission for Public Education and Culture, Georgia Supreme Soviet.

1929-1947 instructor, since 1947 Professor, Tbilisi University. Since 1941 Director,Department of Petrology, Geology Institute, Georgia Academy of Sciences. 1951-1955 Academy Secretary, 1955-1958 V.-President, Georgia Academy of Sciences.

1958-1960 Rector, Tbilisi University.
