1904-1905 took part in student revolt circles, originally siding with anarchists. 1910 switched to Marxists and worked with student Social-Democratic organisation. Late 1910 arrested, expelled from university and exiled.
Moved to Kiev and became member, steering group to re-establish the Kiev Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party organisation, then member, Kiev Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Committee. June 1912 arrested; 1913 sentenced to exile. October 1914 fled to Japan.
Attended Bern Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks) Conference. Contributed to journal “Kommunist”. 1915-1917 opposed Lenin on nations' right to self-determination.
After 1917 February Rcvol chairman, Kiev Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks) Committee. During 1917 October Revol chairman, Revol Committee. After Revol assistant chief comissar, then chief comissar of Gosbank (State Bank).
During controversy over Brest Peace Treaty sided with Leftist Communists. Moved to Ukraine and engaged in underground Party and insurgent work. December 1918 chairman, Ukraine Provisional Workers and Peasants’ Government.
1919 member, Revol Military Council of 13th Army. 1920 comissar, Military Academy. 1912 in the Urals with 1st Labor Army.
During 1920-1921 tradeunion controversy sided with Trotskiy;one of the leaders of the “Military Opposition”. From May 1920 member, Revol Military Council, 16th Army on the Polish Front, then 6th Army on the Wrangel Front. 1921 chairman, Donbass Centr Coal Indiana Board.
From 1923 deputy chairman, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Supreme Economic Council. 1927 Soviet trade representative in France. From 1928 deputy chairman, Board, State Bank and Collegium member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics People's Commissariat of Finance.
Chairman, Main Concessions Committee. From 1929 chairman, Board, State Bank. From 1930 member, Labor and Defense Council.
1931 chairman, All-Union Chemical Indiana Association. 1933-1934 Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Deputy People's Commissar of Heavy Indiana. At the 10th and 11th Party Congresses elected candidate member, at the 12th—14th Congresses elected member, Central Committee, All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks).
1927 at 15th Party Congress expelled from All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) for Trotskyist sympathies. Recanted hir error and was readmitted to the Party on 14 September 1929. 1936 again expelled from Party and later sentenced for alleged anti-Party and anti-Soviet activities.
Religion is bad because it doesn't give equal treatment to women and thus offends basic human rights.
Communist party could initiate policies in the name of the society because it knows what the best is for its progress and development.
