He was president of VfB Stuttgart from 17 July 2011 to 3 June 2013. Mäuser also was manager at Bayerische Motoren Werke and Porsche AG.
On 20 May 2011 the supervisory board of VfB Stuttgart presented Gerd East. Mäuser as their candidate for the election of the new president of the club On 17 July 2011 Mäuser was elected.
On 10 April 2013 Mäuser announced his resignation with effect from 3 June 2013.
