Gerhard Gritzner found himself in the orphanage at the age of 10 . He studied at an ordinary high school, after which he decided to continue his education in the humanities gymnasium. However, soon he had to leave the gymnasium because there was nobody to pay for his studies. Gerhard started to look for a job. His career began at the grocery store. Soon he got the driver's license and acquired a job of a truck driver. Then Gerhard rented a gas station and was engaged in its operation. In his spare time, Gerhard attended evening courses at the High School of Commerce.
In 1972, Gerhard Gritzner got a job at the firm Ilbau and since then his whole professional life has been connected with it. His work in Ilbau Gritsner began as a commercial manager of a number of construction projects in the framework of a large-scale project. After the end of the project, Gerhard moved to Vienna, to the central office of the firm Ilbau. In 1976, he sent to work in Libya. In 1979, Gerhard moved to Czechoslovakia and until 1980 he managed the Ilbau office in Paskov, where the firm was building a pulp and paper plant.
A significant stage in the life of Gritsner was the work in Iraq, where Gerhard headed the branch of the firm Ilbau from 1980 to 1990 and headed a number of construction projects, the first of which was the non-ferrous metals factory in Faluja.
In 1991, Gerhard was sent to Moscow to develop business in Russia. Since 1991, a stable and successful organizational structure has been created in Moscow under Gritzner's leadership . In 2000, the Group Bauholding Strabag unifies its brand name. Since that moment, all construction companies of the concern act under the single brand name Strabag.
