Career
From 1896 assistant professor, Chair of Pathoanatomy and Hospital Therapy Clinic, Yur’yev University. 1897 defended doctor’s thesis. Worked at V. P. Obraztsov’s Clinic in Kiev.
Directed “Pushcha-Voditsa” Tuberculosis Sanatorium for children. Sciences director, Lenin Tuberculosis Sanatorium of All-Russian Centr Trade-Union Council, Kratovo. Also head, Chair of Tuberculosis, Centr Institute of Postgraduate Medical Training, Moscow.
1941-1950 also head, Chair of Tuberculosis, 1st Moscow Medical Institute. Established that initial form of pulmonary tuberculosis in adults is a focal process. His clinical grouping of forms of tuberculosis provided the basis for the present Soviet classification of this disease.
Wrote manual on differential diagnosis of pulmonary diseases. Did research on means of isolating tubercular bacilli in man and animals. Stressed need for early active treatment of patients with initial forms of pulmonary and pleural tuberculosis.
Wrote over 100 works.
