Career
Among her many stage, television, and screen credits, Johnson created and hosted her own television variety show in Dallas, Texas, Gerry Johnson"s Variety Fair in the 1950s and played Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest and several characters in Under Milkwood in the opening season of the Dallas Theater Center. After moving back to Los Angeles in 1961, she co-hosted on Red Rowe"s Panorama Pacific. A versatile voice-over and television actress, she provided voices for The Flintstones and other Hanna-Barbera productions and guest-starred on Bewitched.
Johnson took over the role of Betty Rubble after Bea Benaderet left because of her commitment to Petticoat Junction.
Johnson provided the voice of a French woman, an English woman and reprised her role of Betty Rubble for the feature film The Manitoba Called Flintstone before departing from voice acting. Johnson died at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, California at age 71.
