Dr. Moreno-Riano develops and tests a theory of political tolerance that encompasses cultural and social relations as well as standard explanations of political tolerance. While some of the theory's predictions do not work out, the research demonstrates conclusively that social relations and cultural values affect political toleration independently of demographic and psychological characteristics.
