Magyar also competed in three Summer Olympics, earning his best finish of fourth in the K-1 500 m event at Atlanta in 1996. Magyar graduated from the University of Physical Education and Sport in Bacau, Romania in 2002. He earned a degree in teaching.
After his retirement, Magyar began coaching elite teen athletes.
He has coached a group of individually selected athletes from around the country, 15 of whom earned places on the National Romanian Junior Team.
