Mccurdy, Gilbert James Cathcart was born on March 29, 1895 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of John Cooke and Florence A. (Cathcart) Mccurdy.

With McCurdy & Company, Inc., Rochester, New York, 1919-1978, successively salesman, credit manager, secretary, treasurer, general manager, 1919-1931, president, 1931-1962, Chairman of the Board, 1962-1978. Chairman of the Board Community Savings Bank, Rochester, to 1954, member of advisory committee. President Midtown Holdings Corporation, to 1971, Chairman of the Board, 1971-1978.
