Higher School of Art of Grenoble
Gilles Balmet graduated from Higher School of Art of Grenoble in 2003. After spending a year at the Cité Internationale des Arts, he decided to settle in Paris.
He is an independent artist. His works (videos, paintings, sculptures and drawings) have already been shown in many cultural institutions, such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon in 2004, at the Frac Champagne Ardenne in 2005, and at the gallery of l’Ecole Supérieure d’Art et de Design in Amiens for his solo show "Digital Garden". The artist showed the video "Aikido" at the FID in Marseille which was also part of the video program at the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume in December 2005 and in the International documentary film festival of Mexico. Gilles Balmet was also invited to the international video art festival (FIAV) in 2005 in Barcelona, and showed his work at the Kunsthalle in Halle, Germany in February. In january 2006 he did a solo show based on his work linked with the Rorschach test at the Nuke Gallery in Paris curated by Vérane Pina. He also created a special window concept for eight Hermès shops In Italy and created a special work on the internet with 1000 new drawings for the Grenoble art Museum website. He recently participated to the INCIPIT exhibition curated by Charlotte Laubard in the Ricard Foundation in Paris for the famous Prix Ricard.
He lives and works in Paris at the present moment.
